From Clueless to Confident: My Journey to Becoming a Longarm Quilter

Years ago, while working in a fabric store and happily assisting customers, I kept hearing the same question: “Do you know any longarm quilters?” I’ll admit—I was stumped. “Longarm quilter? What’s that?” I thought, feeling a little embarrassed by my lack of knowledge. Determined to find out, I set off to unravel the mystery behind these intriguing machines.

As I delved into the world of longarm quilting, I discovered something exciting—quilting had always been my favourite part of the quilt-making process, even on my domestic sewing machine. The idea of working on a machine designed specifically for quilting was thrilling. It didn’t take long for me to realise: I needed a longarm quilting machine in my life.

After some research, I bought a second-hand Handi Quilter and set it up in my home. Little did I know that this decision would be the beginning of an entirely new chapter. What started as a part-time side hustle quickly grew into a thriving full-time business, thanks to the incredible trust and support of my wonderful clients.

Today, I’m proud to run a successful longarm quilting business, offering professional services and online courses to help others master the craft. From those early days of curiosity to now working with your beautiful quilts, I’ve learned so much and feel incredibly fortunate to have the best job in the world. Every quilt I work on is an honour, and I’m endlessly grateful for the journey that brought me here.
