LONGARM QUILTING SERVICES
EDGE TO EDGE QUILTING
A single pattern is repeated all over your quilt in rows, regardless of the piecing or applique. This is also known as a pantograph, all over quilting and continuous line quilting. This is the most affordable and fastest service and looks fabulous on all types of quilts, traditional or modern.
This is currently charged at $5 per square foot. Minimum charge for edge to edge quilting is $60. See FAQ below to work out how many square feet your quilt is.
CUSTOM QUILTING
Quilt blocks may be individually quilted and the border has a separate quilting design. Custom quilting can include stitch in the ditch, cross hatching, outlining of applique, background fill and more.
Custom quilting will be charged at different rates depending on complexity.
Simple custom is priced from $10.00 per square foot. This may be a simple meander and different border option but no stitch in the ditch or ruler work.
A medium density design is from $14.00 per square foot. Some ruler work and different designs in blocks and borders.
High density including stitch in the ditch and ruler work is from $18.00 per square foot.
If you have a budget for custom quilting please let me know in advance so that I can work with you on suitable design options. Minimum charge for custom quilting $100.
If your quilt needs turning to complete borders there will be an additional fee of $25.
BASTING
I can baste your quilt for you to save you the back breaking work of pinning or spray basting your quilt sandwich. Lines are basted in a grid or a meandering pattern to provide a stable surface for you to complete your own quilting.
Basting is charged at $3 per square foot.
BINDING
I can sew on your pre-made, pressed binding ready for you to hand or machine stitch to the back of your quilt. This is charged per inch.
Binding is charged at 15c per inch to attach your pre-made, joined and ironed binding to the front of your quilt. This does not include hand stitching or machine sewing to the back of the quilt.
I charge 45c per inch to make binding using your fabric and attach to front and finish by machine sewing to the back.
RUSH FEE
Need your quilt quickly? I charge a rush fee of $150 and can offer a 24 hour service for edge to edge quilting.

How do I work out how many square feet my quilt top is?
Measure the length and width of your quilt and multiply these together. Divide this number by 144 to get the square foot measurement of your quilt.
For example, if your quilt is 80" by 72" multiply 80 x 72 = 5760
5760÷144 = 40 square feet.
40 x $5 = $200 for an allover edge to edge design.
How should I prepare my quilt top for you to quilt?
There are a number of ways you can help in the quilt preparation.
1. Please ensure your quilt top and backing have been ironed.
2. Please ensure threads have been trimmed and removed from the back of the quilt top as best you can.
3. Make sure your quilt and backing are as square as possible.
4. When attaching the borders on your quilt measure through the middle of your quilt. This helps ensure there is no extra fullness in the borders which can be difficult to quilt out and may affect the finished product.
Should I pin or baste the layers together?
No! I need all three layers separate to load onto the quilting machine.
Can I post my quilt to you?
Yes absolutely! Please ensure that you use a courier service or tracked post via Australia Post.
When returning your quilt I will send it by Australia post or courier service depending on where you live. This will be charged to you at cost.

Please remember to include a note with your details and any preferences you have with regards to design, budget or thread colours.
How much extra do I need to allow for my backing and wadding?
Backing must be at least 10" wider and 10" longer than the quilt top (so an extra 5" or 12cm on all sides) This allows the clamps to hold the quilt in place.
It is far better to have too much backing than not enough!
For custom quilting at least 16" extra is required (8" on all sides) to enable me to do ruler work in the border.
Wadding should be at least 4" wider than the quilt top all round.
Which wadding do you recommend?
This is completely a personal preference and I am happy to work with your preference. I do recommend a wadding with a little more loft for custom quilting.
I can supply 100% cotton, 100% bamboo, 100% Polyester, 80/20 Cotton Poly and 60/40 Wool/Poly blend wadding by Matildas Own - made in Australia.
Please be aware that you get what you pay for with wadding - cheaper waddings have a tendency to rip very easily and do not hold their shape.
What are your payment methods?
You can pay via cash or online transfer. Payment is required prior to or at the time of pickup.
So, I've read all the information - what now?
Once you have everything organised and are ready for your quilt to be quilted please either email me at info@thequiltroom.com.au or text on 0419009626 to setup a dropoff time. Whilst I work from home I'm not ALWAYS here so I do require a pre-arranged appointment time to ensure we don't miss each other!
If you are posting your quilt please send me a message to let me know it's on the way so I can look out for it and let you know when it arrives.
Your quilt will be added to the queue - quilts are quilted in the order I receive them (if you're in a desperate hurry ask me about my rush fee option!) Once your quilt is finished I will send you a text with the final cost and payment details. We can then organise a time for you to come and pickup the quilt, or I will post back to you within a day or so of receiving payment.
