What is a memory quilt?
A memory quilt is made from clothing or fabric that has special meaning and is designed to celebrate the life of a loved one or a special event.
Each quilt is a bespoke piece of art that is made with many hours of love.
Memory quilts can
Bring comfort to family when a loved one has passed away.
Be made to celebrate special milestone birthdays.
Be made to celebrate all those wonderful baby clothes that you don't want to give away.
Be a celebration of sporting achievements.
A reminder of music concerts you've attended and collected t-shirts from!
Be used instead of a guest book at a wedding. Have your guests sign fabric to be turned into a quilt!
What about a baby shower quilt? An amazing keepsake for the parents-to-be.
What is the process?
Make a time to bring in the clothing or fabric that you want made into a quilt. Please leave the clothing in one piece.
Clothing can be posted or delivered to Reservoir, Melbourne or to Ballarat.
Discuss the different design options for the quilt. A simple geometric design with shirts sewn together in rows works well for clothing that is all similar in size and style. A collage style quilt, where the clothing is sewn together with no obvious pattern, works better to show off many different types of clothing, textures, fabrics and sizes.
Once a decision is made about design and finished size of the quilt a $200 non-refundable deposit will be required.
The clothing/fabric will be cut to the required size to make blocks (Please do NOT precut your clothing!)
The blocks will be sewn together, layered with wadding and backing fabric, professionally longarm quilted (sewing the three layers together) and bound to finish the raw edges.
You will leave a bag of clothes and receive back a wonderful new quilt which is usable and full of memories!
What does the price include?
Memory quilts are all inclusive of
Cutting out, ironing and interfacing all your clothing
Designing the quilt
Sewing the clothing/fabric together
Layering with our wadding and backing fabric
Quilting on a longarm quilting machine with an edge to edge design of your choice
Making binding and attaching around the outside to the front and back
**Please ensure that all your clothing or fabric is clean and washed. We cannot always avoid stains or marks so if you don't want them
in your quilt please ensure these items are not included or stains removed before dropping the fabrics to us**

How much does it cost?
The cost of the quilt is dependent on the finished size, however please find a guide below.
Quilts can be made to any size providing there is enough clothing/fabric provided. The lower end prices reflect a simple quilt where a basic geometric design is used (patches all cut to the same size and sewn together in straight rows regardless of logos or patterns). The price will increase with the complexity of the design and the clothing or fabric provided.
Remember, every memory quilt is special and unique and destined to become a treasured heirloom.
Lap Size (approx 60" x 60" /150 x 150cm) from $750 for a simple geometric design or from $1100 for a collage style.
Single Size (approx 55" x 82" / 140 x 210cm) from $950 for a simple geometric design or from $1400 for a collage style.
Double Size (approx 71" x 82" / 180 x 210cm) from $1200 for a simple geometric design or from $1800 for a collage style.
Queen Size (approx 82" x 82" / 210 x 210cm) from $1400 for a simple geometric design or from $2100 for a collage style.
Turnaround time is generally between 10-16 weeks.
Can you make a Memory Bear?
Yes!
We now offer a memory bear service. Our bears stand around 18" (46cm) tall and are priced from $130 for a basic bear with 2-3 different fabrics. Additional work (eg specific placement of logos, accessories or hand sewn faces) will incur additional cost.
**PLEASE NOTE - these bears are NOT toys and should not be given to small children**
